According to a recent study conducted by Simmons Research Database, mixed martial arts (MMA) is the world’s fastest-growing sport, and thanks to Spartan Combat Equipment, Australians who are interested in MMA will now have access to the company’s premier grappling dummies.

“We are now exporting to Australia,” said Duane Riley, product designer and manufacturer for Spartan Combat Equipment. “We get enquiries from all around the world and after success in New Zealand, we have now included sales to the Australian market.”

Riley explained that its product is a premier grappling dummy with a realistic and unique design.

“It’s used and tested in MMA gyms so we know it lasts,” Riley pointed out, before adding, “The realistic movement allows you to practice techniques and drill your moves anytime you want when training on your own.”

Riley went on to note that the company’s product is also popular in gyms and clubs, because it allows instructors to demonstrate moves to the class and provides safe training without harming partners.

“During the month of December, we’re offering our grappling and training dummies at a special price of only $529.00,” Riley said.

He noted that Spartan Combat Equipment’s product is geared towards males aged between 17 – 45 in Australia, who are interested in MMA and or Brazilian Ju Jitsu.

The sport was first televised in the United States on a pay-per-view basis in 1993 as a test to see which combat style was the most effective: boxing, wrestling, karate, jiu-jitsu, judo, Muy Thai or basic brawling.

It has been popularised by the Ultimate Fighting Championship and many fans refer to the sport as ultimate fighting.

“Our dummies are also popular with security and defense forces as they allow them to train recruits and existing workforce without hurting partners,” Riley said. “Our dummy is realistically jointed in all major areas which lets you apply a vast array of holds and techniques in a more realistic way. Our unique design means it feels like you are practicing with a person. The frame feels like bone, no unrealistic bendiness.”

Van Milnes, MMA and Grappling Instructor at Auckland MMA, described the company’s grappling dummy as the best practice dummy on the market.

“As a coach of the grappling sports, I find Maximus an invaluable tool for me to demonstrate techniques one-on-one to my students,” Milnes said. “It is also great as a drilling partner for group classes where there is an odd number of students. I love the way the joints are properly modeled for a realistic feel. I don't know of any other grappling dummy that can be positioned in the number of ways Maximus can be positioned.”

Milnes went on to point out that with Spartan Combat Equipment’s dummy, she can demonstrate armbars, kneebars, triangles, rear chokes, anacondas and d'arce chokes, heel hooks, wristlocks, hip tosses, double and single leg takedowns, control positions and escape positions.

“When I use it, the number of techniques I can demonstrate doubles,” Milnes stressed. “I highly recommend Maximus for anyone needing to frequently demonstrate or drill grappling techniques."

As to why anyone in Australia should try the company’s grappling dummy, Riley said, “Our product offers more realism than our competition when practicing alone and it hasn’t been available in Australia till now.”
