Tom Cruise and the Catlins will both be in the spotlight at TomTom Outdoor Cinema later this month.
The moonlit movie sessions at the Red Barn at Remarkables Park will offer the 80’s classic action movie “Top Gun” on Friday 25 January with Kiwi comedy “Two Little Boys” on Saturday 26 January.
Queenstown Lakes District Council arts and events facilitator Jan Maxwell says the films should have broad appeal.
“Top Gun, with its amazing aerobatics and memorable star turn from Tom Cruise is always popular and the chance to see it on a big screen doesn’t come along often,” she said.
The local aspect of ‘Two Little Boys’ would appeal as much as the comedy.
“It’s a dark but funny movie that also showcases the spectacular scenery of the Catlins,” Mrs Maxwell said.
“It’s nice to have the opportunity to see quirky Kiwi filmmaking at its best and the fact that it was filmed in the south just adds to the experience.”
The movies are set to screen once darkness falls (around 9.30pm/9.45 pm) and entrance is by gold coin donation with all funds raised going to Remarkables School. Food and drink stalls would also be available on site although people were welcome to bring a picnic.
People should also bring chairs, bean bags and rugs to sit on and dress warmly. Gates open at 9pm. ‘Two Little Boys’ is rated R15 (restricted to people aged 15 and over)
