PALMERSTON NORTH

MAKINO Aquatic Centre Manager, Iain Brown, and two lifesavers, have accepted a challenge from the Palmerston North City Council to go bald for child cancer.

Mr Brown will be joined by Luke Dodunski and Justin Butler as the Manawatu District Council representatives who face a rendezvous with a razor on Thursday, December 6, to raise funds for the Child Cancer Foundation.

The shave-off will begin at 5.30pm in the Rose and Crown Olde English Pub in Palmerston North with five hair stylists giving volunteers number one to four cuts.

Mr Brown, who recently lost a nephew and uncle to cancer, had no hesitation in accepting the challenge from the city to MDC and Horizons Regional Council on which local authority could raise the most money through sponsorship.

He has already had experience of the close shave, having his curls shorn for CanTeen when in the police, and likes his hair short, despite protestations from his wife and mother.

Donations to Mr Brown and his team can be made at the fundraising website, www.fundraiseonline.co.nz/IainBrown/  or at collection boxes at the Makino and the council office in Manchester St, Feilding.
