An electrical failure meant a delayed kerbside recycling collection for parts of Arrowtown on Monday, Queenstown Lakes District Council solid waste advisor Stefan Borowy said.

“The dedicated kerbside recycling truck was not able to continue the collection. Fortunately the problem has now been resolved,” he said.

A back-up truck was despatched to Arrowtown and the majority of streets had been covered by Monday evening.

“Unfortunately we had a couple of streets left, which were cleared on Tuesday morning,” Mr Borowy said.

People had the good sense to leave the recycling wheelie bins out until they were able to be collected.

“This highlights that in the event of a late pick-up; there will be a good reason behind it, mechanical failure being one. We have alternative resource we can call on and people should just be patient, as they were in Arrowtown,” Mr Borowy said.
