Before Kobe Bryant, before Shaquille O’Neal and even before Michael Jordan, the Original Harlem Globetrotters were electrifying fans worldwide, and they are coming to a city near you.

It’s been over 12 years since history's most famous basketball team graced the courts in New Zealand, and the Globetrotters are returning in May for a seven-city tour.

The Harlem Globetrotters are a worldwide icon, synonymous with one-of-a-kind family entertainment and great basketball skills.  The Globetrotters organization represents 87 years of breaking down barriers, acts of kindness, and a commitment to fans that goes well beyond the game.  The "Ambassadors of Goodwill"™ have dazzled and dunked their way into the hearts of over 136 million fans worldwide, visiting 122 countries on six continents.

You’ll know the Globetrotters are ready to put on their spectacular show when you hear the sweet whistling of that instantly recognizable tune, “Sweet Georgia Brown.”  The famous “Magic Circle” gets underway at center court, as the players take turns in a mesmerizing showcase of blazing ball handling prowess, each teammate highlighting his own unique skills.

For the next 90 minutes, the Globetrotters exhibit a captivating assortment of trick shots, high-flying dunks, and precise timing…with a side-splitting array of comedy guaranteed to entertain both the young and the young at heart.  The Globetrotters get their fans involved in the game - even out on the court with the players - like no other team.

The Globetrotters’ 2013 World Tour will showcase even more incredible ball handling wizardry, fresh comedy, and amazing rim-rattling dunks – all presented by some of the world’s greatest athletes and entertainers.

“It’s exciting to bring such an iconic world sports team to New Zealand after long time away from our shores. The Harlem Globetrotters are a team of highly skilled athletes and entertainers who put on a fantastic show the whole family can really enjoy. It’s great that we’re able to take the team to places such as Nelson, New Plymouth and Napier where basketball has a strong history and good support. So far advance tickets are selling well and it seems people are keen to see what is going to be an amazing spectacle,” said Suzanne Cannell from the New Zealand promoters, On The Road Events.

The Harlem Globetrotters will be playing throughout New Zealand starting from Saturday 25 May at the North Shore Events Centre in Auckland followed by games in Cowles Stadium, Christchurch, then Wellington, New Plymouth, Dunedin, Nelson and Napier.

Tickets can be purchased at various venues with some locations expected to sell very quickly.
