Free Easter eggs are on offer again on Quail Island with Black Cat Cruises this weekend.

It has become a local tradition for the tourism operator to give away thousands of Easter eggs as part of an Easter egg hunt on the Lyttelton Harbour Island every Easter holidays.

“We have over three thousand eggs and four giant chocolate bunnies, one for each day, to give away this weekend,” Black Cat Cruises Group Operations Manager Paul Milligan said.

Keen Easter egg hunters will have to find three different coloured tokens in order to receive the maximum quota of Easter Eggs. They need to also find a golden stone to win a giant Easter Bunny. Milligan said it adds an fun extra element but stressed the company sells it trips out every year so suggested booking early to avoid the disappointment of missing out.

Quail Island is only a 15 minute ride by ferry from Lyttelton Harbour.  On board the ferry passengers will be given a map of the Island and an outline of the hunt for Easter eggs.

“It takes around two hours to walk the whole island and is great time out with family and friends searching the island for the coloured tokens which you will then exchange for the Easter Eggs,” he said.

“While hunting for the eggs you also discover ship wrecks, native birds, volcanic cliffs and even caves.”

The Easter Egg hunt is operating on Friday 29th March through to Monday April 1st and Milligan adds it’s also important to take warm clothes and sensible walking shoes.

“The office is over flowing with chocolate Easter Eggs and bunnies, and they all have to go this weekend.”
