AUCKLAND

DEVELOPING NEWS| 11.38AM: A small black bag was the centre of attention after a bomb scare took place one hour in flight to Sydney after taking off from Auckland Airport.

The plane was told to turn around and landed safely at Auckland's International Airport however a long investigation with the bomb squad, fire service, police, and airport staff has confirmed it was a false alarm.

The "suspicious item" that forced the evacuation of the Qantas jet turned out to be part of the planes interior that is not normally visable.

Katie Moore, Auckland Airport spokeswoman, confirmed the Sydney flight, reported to be QF142, turned back after approximately an hour in flight.

The passengers were being kept in a secure terminal while the plane was searched by dogs and the bomb squad. 

Some passengers told their family members they were scared until the alarm was brought down to being false.

Passengers were grounded for over two hours while the plane was emptied and searched.

It was intended the plane would continue its flight to Sydney.

Numerous emergency services were involved in the incident.
