Olympic Silver medallist Bevan Docherty has proven the move from ITU triathlon to the longer form of racing has paid dividends, winning Ironman NZ in March and today claiming victory at 70.3 Boise USA.

Docherty has kept the Kiwi winning streak alive in Idaho, backing up the dead heat finish last year at Boise between Matty Reed and Callum Millward.

Over the last six years, Ironman 70.3 Boise (held over the half ironman distance) has established itself as an athletes favorite for its noon start and challenging course, with Docherty proving the master of the course today winning in a time of 3:52:55, just under two minutes clear of Canadian Brent McMahon, with Australian Josh Amberger third.

Amberger was first from the water at the end of the 1.2 mile swim (23:49) with McMahon and Docherty next.  Onto the bike it took just 16 miles for Docherty to grab the lead from Amberger.

Into T2 off the bike Docherty lead and headed off on the run with a 14 second lead over Amberger, with a further minute back to McMahon

Docherty proved to be the fastest on foot running a 1:15:20 to take the 2013 70.3 Boise victory, while McMahon passed Amberger to take second.

After the race Docherty commented on facebook “Ouch that hurt! Happy to get the win here at 70.3Boise thanks to Josh Amberger for driving the bike & Brent McMahon for pushing me to the end!”

The women’s race was won by Liz Reno.
