Matariki Weekend of Music and Entertainment

As the Matariki stars continue to shine, the Matariki Festival is gearing up for its busiest weekend yet with Native Noise and the 2degrees Kapa Haka Super 12’s headlining in Auckland this weekend.

Kicking off the celebrations on Friday night, Native Noise is set to rock the Town Hall with an outstanding line-up of Roots-Reggae artists including Che Fu and the Krates, 1814 and Three Houses Down.

On Saturday the 2degrees Kapa Haka Super 12’s will take kapa haka to a whole new level with performers giving their interpretation on kapa haka to produce fresh, high-energy stage performances at The Cloud. One of the highly anticipated events in the festival line-up, teams of 12 will battle it out for 12 minutes in their quest to impress the judges and win a share of $12,000 cash. A festival favourite, this year’s event is shaping up to entertain and delight more than ever before.

Event organiser for the 2degrees Kapa Haka Super 12’s Torise Flay says this year has seen an impressive selection of talent enrol to show off their skills. “It’s remarkable to see the growing interest in kapa haka each year. This is not the traditional kapa haka people are accustomed to though, this is high energy performance art and a real visual experience.”

As Auckland’s most prominent indigenous festival, the Matariki Festival runs from 22 June to 22 July offering - 31 days of culture, food, fun and entertainment proudly brought to you by Auckland Council and the whānau of Matariki Festival sponsors and supporters.
