Flurry of fatal car accidents in Christchurch

CHRISTCHURCH

There has been a fatal car accident involving two vehicles on the outskirts of Christchurch this morning.

The crash happened at the intersection of Shands and Blakes Roads in Prebbleton about 7.30am on Thursday, a police spokesman said.

Earlier Yahoo NZ reported there were fears that one of the occupants would die and shortly later reports came in.

infonews.co.nz can confirm one person is dead, the occupant died at the scene police said.

Police had no further details.

SECOND ACCIDENT

Meanwhile Another two-vehicle crash was reported at 7.44am at the intersection of Wairakei and Orchard roads, near Christchurch Airport.

One woman was believed to have been injured in the crash, but the extent of her injuries were not yet known.

THIRD ACCIDENT: "motorbikes gone wrong" - reports

The third crash happened only four kilometres away from the fatal collision, involving a motorcycle and a car at the intersection of Main South and Waterholes roads in Templeton.

The crash was reported at 8.02am and it was likely at least one person had been injured, the police spokesman said.

Motorists driving near any of the crash sites are advised that delays are likely.
