DELAY BOOSTS ANTICIP...ATION FOR OFFROAD RACERS
• Best Forsyth Electrical enduro brings top teams to Hawkes Bay
• National championship last chance points push
• 41 – and counting - entries

Top New Zealand offroad racing teams will finally hit the forest roads and tracks of Gwavas Forest in southwest Hawkes Bay this weekend after the recent ‘weather bomb’ forced the postponement of the Best Forsyth Electrical endurance race.
Northern teams contesting the 2013 New Zealand Offroad Racing Championship will hit town this weekend for a last shot at adding to their points tally. The championship has been shortened this year to enable teams to also contest the ENZED Taupo 1000, the biggest event in the sport in this country.
Hawkes Bay Offroad Racing Club’s endurance race, held over 250 km in Gwavas Forest, is the second round of the championship’s regional segment. Northern and southern racers then come together at the national final in October.
The club says this weekend’s race follows the style of the previous Gwavas event in 2011, featuring fast shingle roads, fire breaks, and downhill sections between scrub and trees. The race will be based at the forest airstrip but will run in the opposite direction in that part of the forest, with some sections of track not raced for six years or more.
The club says some teams will come for the championship, others with the aim of getting in some endurance race time before September’s Taupo event.
Forest gates are open to allow team and spectator access off Gwavas Road between 7.00 am and 7.30 am on Sunday morning.
