Kiwi Triathlete Sam Warriner has finished 13th in the final round of the ITU BG World Cup Series in Israel tonight NZT, in doing so finishing third overall in the world rankings for the year.

New Zealand’s number one ranked athlete was in touch from early on the bike and rode comfortably in the lead pack of 20 athletes but could not maintain that rhythm on the 10km run, finishing 2 minutes and 19 seconds behind first time winner Nicola Spirig (Austria).

Warriner needed to finish inside the top nine in Israel to overhaul Emma Moffat in second place on the world rankings but couldn’t find the necessary leg speed today at the end of a long and successful season.
