Rhythm and Alps is excited to unveil the second line up for this year’s festival with the addition of 16 new acts to the bill.  With over 40 international and local acts on two stages at the beautiful Robrosa Station in the Cardrona Valley, Wanaka, festival organisers are expecting the festival to sell out by the end of this month.

ZANE LOWE has come a long way from a bedroom in Auckland where, as a five-year-old, he first became obsessed with rock music. His career started at New Zealand’s Max TV where he interviewed everyone from The Smashing Pumpkins through to KD Lang while also fronting local hip hop group Urban Disturbance and electronic soul outfit Break’s Co-op.   A move to London landed him a temporary holiday cover for MTV’s Eddie Temple- Morris, and they were so impressed they hired him full time. His encyclopaedic knowledge of alternative culture and interviews with bands made his show Gonzo one of the UK’s top tastemaker TV music shows.

In 2003 the call came from the BBC asking him to replace Steve Lamacq’s Evening Session on Radio One and gave him a free reign to choose his own playlist.  Now he is not only known as an MTV legend and Radio One lynchpin, pounding out the world’s most exciting and innovative new sounds - Zane Lowe (aka Zipper) - is a successful international live DJ and remix artist in his own right.

THE VEILS, the half Kiwi half UK alt-rock band, will bring their exhilarating live performance to Rhythm and Alps after a sold out NZ tour earlier in the year.  Hot off the release of their critically acclaimed fourth LP Time Stays, We Go – an album that took the band back on the road throughout North America, Europe and Australasia – their live performances are highly regarded the world over.   The band were recently hailed as “The best and most unsettling thing I’ve seen in music this year” by The LA Times.

DJ Zinc's career as a DJ and producer stretches the steady evolution of hardcore from its house and rave roots through to ragga and hip hop styled hardstep.   Being one of the first drum and bass producers to gain popularity with the two step garage market courtesy of his 1999 cult classic, "138 Trek" which reached #27 in the UK charts, his productions have also been popular outside the drum and bass scene. He has since broadened his repertoire by producing a fusion of deep house, funky house and fidget house. In 2010 his single “Wile Out’ featured vocals by Ms Dynamite and went to #38 on the UK Singles Chart.

NATHAN HAINES is another ex-pat who will be heading to Rhythm and Alps this year. An  internationally renowned saxophonist, composer, producer, bandleader and vocalist with a body of work in multiple styles with two certified local Gold albums and numerous music awards and accolades to his name.

Based in London since the mid 90's, Nathan is putting together a very special band for this years New Years Eve Rhythm and Alps Festival, featuring UK vocalist KEVIN MARK TRAIL (singer for UK band The Streets).

Kevin and Nathan first worked together on 2010's "Heaven and Earth" release on the dub infused track "Pathway" with drums by local legend Mickey Ututaonga who will be joining the band.

Nathan's previous release "The Poet's Embrace" won a Tui award this year, and has been released in the UK and Europe on Warner Music. Nathan recently played the world famous Ronnie Scotts jazz club in November with his UK band and has played many international Festivals and clubs throughout his career.

CAIRO KNIFE FIGHT began as a solo recording project developed during the down time from Nick Gaffney’s day job as drummer for some of New Zealand’s most successful artists.  Aside from Gaffaney on drums and lead vocal duties, the band features an array of talented musicians. Between them they have performed in Fat Freddy’s Drop, Anika Moa, Goldenhorse, Weta, Dimmer, Dave Dobbyn and Hollie Smith.

With an arsenal of drums, guitar, synth bass and loop pedals, Cairo Knife Fight pack a riff driven punch that has seen them hold their own against the title holders they’ve shared stages with – names such as Foo Fighters, Them Crooked Vultures and Queens of the Stone Age.

TRUTH (Andre Fernandez and Tristan Roake) have built their reputation in NZ and abroad as both world-class producers and party-rocking DJs, cutting a clear pathway through the international dubstep scene.

Nominated “Best Producer” in the 2013 Dubstepforum Awards, this duo will unleash their beautifully bass-laden beats which have been storming the US and European club and festival scene for the past two years.

Further additions to the line up include Freddie Cruger AKA Red Astaire, Spikey Tee, Ruse, Lewis Tenant, Steezie Wonder, Sticky Fingaz, , Play DJ’s (R.I.A and C:She) Seth Hamilton and Holly Arrowsmith.
