Forty of Auckland’s most promising young League players, aged 13 to 15 years, impressed the coaches and training staff at the elite Instant Finance JETS training camp held on Saturday 30 November 2013.
Established in 1998, the JETS player development Camps provide targeted elite players with the opportunity to receive coaching from Warriors coaching staff, first grade players and New Zealand Kiwis.
Just as importantly, players also participate in sessions on goal setting, attitude and leadership and are encouraged to focus as much on their personal development as their skills.
And with Warriors Pathways Manager, Duane Mann, on hand, it’s also a good opportunity for the boys to showcase their skills. In fact, two of these year’s Under 20s Warriors stars, who will be working with players this weekend, also jumpstarted their careers at the JETS camps.
Duane Mann said: “Participation numbers for rugby league have been growing over the past five years, and Auckland remains the largest base for the sport in the country. Overall, the talent on show at the Instant Finance JETS Camp in the weekend was really impressive, and the future of Auckland Rugby League is looking particularly bright with these young players coming up through the ranks.”
He continued: “The aim of Auckland League is to develop young men who are not only great League players but who can also contribute positively to their communities. The Instant Finance JETS Camp helps to instil a positive attitude, strong character, work ethic, values and discipline in young players and is a great opportunity for young League players to build on their skills and personal attributes.
Three young boys were named as Up and Coming players to watch – Manurewa players, Kiani Marshall and Jaylamont Upoko-Rino and North Shore player, James Courtnay. Jaylamont was also named u/13s Player of the Day at the 2013 JETS Camp.
Some of New Zealand’s most successful League players, including Stacey Jones, Awen Guttenbeil and Monty Betham, had their first taste of specialist training at the JETS Camps.
