The International Triathlon Union (ITU) is pleased to announce the 2014 ITU Winter Triathlon World Championships have again been awarded to Cogne, Italy and will be held on February 15-16, 2014. This is the second consecutive year the Italian city and the Italian Triathlon Federation FITRI have welcomed the championships.

"After such a successful event last year, it was a natural choice of us to return the championships to Cogne," said ITU President and IOC Member Marisol Casado. "Cogne is an ideal location with its open terrain and winter weather conditions perfect for winter triathlon."

Winter triathlon involves running and mountain biking on snow followed by cross country skiing. The 2014 championship marks the third time Italy has hosted the World Championship event, with the city of Brusson having hosted the first winter triathlon championship event in 2002.

In addition to the elite World Championship, Cogne will welcome Under23, Junior and Age Group athletes to vie for a chance at becoming the next World Champion in their respective divisions.

Event organisers have proposed a three-lap 6km run, three-lap 12km bike, three-lap 9km ski course for the elites and U23 competitors. Junior, Paratriathlon and Age Group athletes will compete on the same course as the elites, but over a shortened distance of 4km on the run, 8km on the bike and 6km skiing.

The Mixed Team Relay will take place on Sunday the 16th, covering distances of a two-lap 4km run, two-lap 6km mountain bike and a two-lap 5km skiing.
