Challenge Henley has been awarded ‘2013 Race of the Year’ by readers of long distance triathlon website, Beyond Going Long.

Over 2000 votes were cast as readers of the website voted for their favourite event from the 2013 race season, and Challenge Henley was the clear winner, with over 50% of the total vote.

Alan Rose, Race Director of Challenge UK said,

‘We are truly honoured to accept this award and would like to thank everyone who voted for us, and the thousands of athletes that have supported Challenge Henley over the past three years.’

He continues, ‘Our decision to relocate the Challenge UK event to Weymouth this year is incredibly exciting for us, and the perfect new destination for our event. We promise to replicate the same high levels of organisation and electric atmosphere that earnt us the award at Henley.’

Age-Grouper Nicki Aitken raced the Henley Half in 2012 and she said,

'“Challenge Henley has to be one of the most scenic courses I've raced on with amazing crowd support. From start to finish, I couldn't fault the organisation, truly first class. A misty & atmospheric start in the Thames for the swim, a bike course that would test the best riders and a run that takes in all that is Henley. I loved it, with locals out cheering in force, resulted in a PB, podium placing and fastest run split by over 5mins. All the staff & volunteers were really friendly & helpful, I would have no hesitation  in racing again with the UK Challenge Family in their new home of Weymouth.”

Richard Campbell, Editor of Beyond Going Long followed with,

"I'm delighted for Just Racing UK that the readers of www.beyondgoinglong.co.uk have recognised Challenge Henley as the best race of 2013. Over the three years that this race was run, it has been a wonderful, well organised fixture on the long distance circuit and this win, in its last edition, is testament to the organisation and atmosphere that was enjoyed by thousands of triathletes over the last 3 years. I have no doubt this will be replicated at the new venue for Challenge UK in Weymouth on 14th September 2014."

There were 12 iron-distance races in the UK last year that were eligible for this award and the full results can be found online at www.beyondgoinglong.co.uk or on the BGL Facebook page www.facebook.com/beyondgoinglong.
