Tips for kids doing The Rev cycle race.

Make sure they have a helmet that fits properly. The Energize team will be around on the day to help with this.

Make sure the bike fits the child. If in doubt get the bike shop to help make adjustments to ensure its safe. Kids need to be able to touch the ground when sitting on the seat, also the reach to the handle bars should be comfortable and not a stretch.

If a bike isn’t set up correctly it is really difficult to handle the bike safely and the child can lose confidence in their riding ability very quickly. Avanti Bikes will be at the REV to help with your questions.

Start out practicing with your child in a safe closed off area like a park where there are no traffic hazards.

Make sure they can start off, change gears and most importantly break with confidence.

Practice signalling with one hand turning left or right so when they progress to riding on the road they can signal with confidence.

There are heaps of fun challenging bike activities and obstacle courses for the kids at the REV including their 2km ‘race’.

I look forward to seeing you all there, till then happy and safe pedalling!
