How do you do one better than your previous world first of delivering a pizza by bungy jump? Domino’s Pizza are pushing deliveries to new heights – 12,000 feet in fact - by delivering the pizza by skydive, another world first!
To celebrate the re-opening of the Domino’s store in Lake Taupo, the company were looking for the perfect way to reflect the area and the community. Scott Bush, Domino’s New Zealand General Manager, couldn’t think of a better way to mark the flagship store opening than a skydive - which is synonymous with Taupo.
“We wanted to celebrate the re-opening of our Taupo store with something that surpassed anything we have done before. Sure, we have delivered a pizza by a bungy jump as a world first, but this time we wanted to go higher and replace the bungy with a parachute. We are going extreme, we are going 12,000 feet in the air and skydiving!.”
“Our store in Taupo is right on the waterfront of one of the most beautiful towns in the world, it attracts people from every corner of the globe due to its beauty and the daredevil nature of the town. We needed to make sure we captured what Taupo is all about and offer a local the chance to do what Taupo does best – skydive. Plus I didn’t want to do the skydive, so we had to put the call out to our fans!”
The adventurous delivery took place at Skydive Taupo on Wednesday 24th September and saw Alison Abel, a lucky winner from a radio competition, performs the 12,000ft jump. Alison didn’t get to rest once she landed though; she had a delivery to complete if she wanted to win the additional prize of six months of free pizza.
Competition Winner, Alison tells us “I have skydived once before and vowed I would never do it again, but the lure of having a night off cooking each week due to winning six months’ worth of vouchers - I couldn’t resist entering. I was scared but didn’t have much time to think about it. I had to hustle to get the pizza to a customer. I think the delivery went off without a hitch, and I really enjoyed it this time! What a buzz!!”
The pizza itself was delivered to another competition winner from the Domino’s Facebook page. It seems they got the easier end of the deal as all they had to do was choose their favourite pizza and sit back and wait for the delivery to finish.
