White Gold, a wickedly satirical comedy inspired by New Zealand’s biggest corporate communications cock up opens this week (Wednesday 8th October) at Auckland’s HLT Studio. The play, specially written for the theatre company by former dairy company executive and marketing expert, Peter Boyes, takes a wry look at Kiwi business culture, and asks why our biggest industry, dairying, was put under a forensic spotlight around the world by a series of communications cock ups.

Experienced theatre actor, Sue Golding, directs the play. She says: `When I was offered the HLT Studio opportunity to tackle White Gold, a satire with plenty to say, it was suddenly game on. It is an entertaining, thought provoking piece of theatre, something of a rarity in New Zealand. And although it seems to be set in a humorous dystopian world where nothing is as it seems and the rules are made up as they go along, remember truth is definitely stranger than fiction. You’ll recognize some of the people in this from your own corporate experiences. And I expect there’ll be some red faces in some board rooms after this.’

White Gold is the highlight of Auckland HLT Studio’s inaugural year. The HLT Studio aims to encourage new and returning actors, new directors, new writers and new designers to experience theatre in an environment tailored to nurture emerging talent. It provides a smaller theatre experience where experimental and innovative productions can be staged.

HLT Studio Artistic Director, Terry Hooper explains: `Part of our mission is to present new voices and this production is a very funny and very poltical new work written by Peter Boyes, a new local playwright, supported by an accomplished production team – both on and off stage.’

HLT Studio’s production of White Gold, written by Peter Boyes, directed by Sue Golding and produced by Terry Hooper, will play for a short season of only five performances from October 8th to 11th at 8 pm, with a 2 pm matinee on Saturday 11th October.
