A REVAMPED entranceway to Kitchener Park, the prized native bush reserve on the outskirts of Feilding, has been completed, with the security gate moved further back from Kawakawa Rd.

Parks and Reserves Manager, Albert James, said the public carpark area had now been enlarged and visitors no longer needed to worry about the possibility of their vehicles being locked in at night.

A new welcome sign was also being prepared.

Mr James said it was disappointing, however, that the work precipitated another wanton act of dumping at the park, with a batch of old tyres and television sets strewn about the entranceway a few nights later.

“People obviously thought the work was a licence to be able to dump their rubbish in a public place.”

He said heightened security measures, including the use of surveillance cameras, were being planned to reduce the problem and catch people “in the act”.
