Restrictions on the use of unattended garden sprinklers are being imposed in the District for properties supplied from town water supply as from Monday, 10 December.

Water restrictions will affect most urban properties in Levin, Foxton, Foxton Beach, Shannon, Tokomaru and surrounding rural areas with water supplied by the Council.

The recent extended period of dry weather has resulted in the rivers starting to run low and with a forecast of continuing dry conditions over the next few weeks, it is time to act to avoid a crisis.

At this time of year demand on the District's water resource increases and Level 1 water restrictions where the use of unattended sprinklers is only permitted on alternative days will commence on Monday.

Even numbered properties are entitled to irrigate on even number days and vice versa. Properties with no number are treated as even numbered properties, and all properties are entitled to water their gardens on the 31st of the month.

Neighbouring districts have already imposed restrictions and at present in Horowhenua, there will be no restriction on the use of hand held hoses.

Residents are asked to report any breaches of the water restriction to the Council by phoning 366-0999.
