NORTH SHORE CITY

Tonight's Race 6 cancelled
After assessing the conditions on Takapuna Beach just 30 minutes ago we have decided that the ocean conditions are unsafe to run the North Shore City Beach Series tonight. We were hoping these conditions would improve (the reason why this email has come through to you just now) but it isn't looking likely. There is currently a prevailing North/North East wind battering the beach causing a sizable chop and swell. It is not an easy decision and one we take very seriously, but after discussion with some of our key event stakeholders we believe this is in the best interest of competitor safety.

Christmas dress up competition next Tuesday, come dressed in Christmas attire and race in it and you will be in the draw for one of three prizes up for grabs next Tuesday.

Tom Jacka will be back to defend his title after taking out the competition last year with his Santa ensemble.

Purchase great photos from the series as a Christmas present!

David Rowland from www.one-image.com  is at the North Shore City Beach Series every Tuesday taking great shots of everyone taking part. Some, as you know, appear each week in the North Shore Times.

Visit David’s website www.one-image.com , select ‘Prints for personal use’ then select ‘Sports’ and you will see the North Shore City Beach Series files.

Race report – race 5

The North Shore City Beach Series gained another excellent turnout radiating more family fun in the sun.

Tim Bowen has been racing with the Beach Series swimmers for three years. He lives with his family just down the road from Takapuna Beach and loves participating in an event with so many motivated people.

“And you can’t beat having a beer on the balcony of the surf club – the view is fantastic,” he added.

The thirty-six year old states that his biggest challenge is what he calls old age, as “everyone seems to be getting younger”. Read more
