Everyone at Kings Garden Centre in Auckland would like to extend their wishes for a very happy New Year to all their customers, and for all their customers to be! The hard-working Kings team all say that the biggest topic for January will be trying to keep our gardens irrigated as we inevitably expect the summer months to be hot and dry. Mostly we will be concerned with keeping our veggie gardens watered and producing tomatoes, beans, courgettes and salad vegetables, so we need to consider irrigation systems, adding mulch to the garden to lock in any moisture and also adding a product called Saturaid to pots and hanging baskets, which helps to stop them getting dry too quickly.

January should see us inundated in summer veggies and glorious flowers but we need to water well and stay on top of the weeds, don’t forget the compost bins, and mulch, mulch, mulch! Kings sell a product made by Living Earth called ‘More than Mulch’ which is great for gardens at this time of the year, so it is time to get down to your local Kings Garden Centre and stock up on some of this which may save the veggie garden in the long run.

As the Kings Plant Barn team members say, “feel good when you garden”, and celebrate the simple pleasures of nurturing the home and garden, and be inspired by the feel good factor a relationship with nature brings to your life. Kings stores have a fantastic range of plants for every season, all the tools needed to complete projects large or small, as well as inspired gifts and items for the home and garden.

Kings’ helpful staff offer practical and trustworthy advice if people need it, and as they say, “just look for the yellow shirt”.
