New Zealand Cricket has completed a review of the pitch at Dunedin’s University Oval following the recent State Otago Volts v State Auckland Aces State Championship game, which concluded in less than two days.
“A team of experts, led by New Zealand Cricket turf manager Jared Carter, performed an inspection of the University Oval and made recommendations about whether a suitable pitch can be produced for The National Bank Test match against Bangladesh,” NZC CEO Justin Vaughan said.
The review has suggested that, with the right preparation, there is confidence over producing a good Test wicket.
“Tight control of moisture content and grass density were identified as key factors in producing a good Test surface and NZC and the Otago Cricket Association will be working hard to produce the best possible wicket,” he added.
“We are committed to the development of the University Oval as an international venue and are delighted with the ongoing support from the Dunedin City Council.
“We shall continue to work with the council to ensure that the pitch is up to international standard and will be closely monitoring its progress.”
