The Variety Club began in Pittsburgh, USA in 1928 when a group of Variety performers discovered an abandoned baby in an empty theatre. A police search failed to find the mother so the performers underwrote her care and education and so began Variety’s philanthropic focus. With these strong roots in entertainment, they are now famous for unique fundraising events and campaigns and have become a worldwide organisation with 43 offices across 13 countries. Variety New Zealand benefits from its international links, but ensures that all funds raised in New Zealand stay in New Zealand.

Variety fill the funding gaps and meet a wide range of grass-roots needs through their Future Kiwi Kids, Caring for Kids and Kids on the Move programmes, and through their signature event, the Variety Bash.

As they have done in the last few years, Argus Fire are committed to supporting Variety, the Children’s Charity through a combination of local fundraising and being part of the “Variety Bash” tour. A number of Argus Fire team members make up the Argus crew on various legs, and all are expected to raise funds for the cause.

From 11 – 18 March 2016, the Variety Bash toured across the South Island from Levin to Timaru. En-route, the Variety Bash made visits to multiple schools, with approximately 4,500 kids experiencing the range of quirky vehicles and their crews.

Argus Fire’s team members volunteer their time and annual leave to support the cause and in an effort to keep their costs down, and maximize the contribution to Variety Bash, they also seek funding from various suppliers. This year was no different and they appreciate all the support from the likes of Pertronic, Hydro Flow, Viking, Hire Towers, Ideal Electrical, Total Access and Admark,

This event is Argus Fire’s biggest event each year in which they show their commitment to the community, particularly the children.
