'Bike Packing' With Just MTB Mountain Biking

The adventurous team at Just MTB have come up with a fabulous new experience, providing one more option to include in their current range of mountain bike tours. They call it bike packing, an overnight mountain hut trip and backcountry camping with bikes, providing a unique experience for their clients. This experience is based around being semi self-sufficient overnight in the mountains, riding in with food and a sleeping bag and experiencing the serenity of the New Zealand backcountry at its best.

 

We all know that in the modern world of smartphones it’s hard to truly get away, to just disappear, so for those brave enough to try it, Just MTB have found the solution. The idea behind bike packing is to travel as light as possible, staying in huts and cabins in the mountains rather than carry tents and all the paraphernalia that goes with it. When considering overnight needs, it can pay to invest in some good quality kit. A small light sleeping bag, merino thermals, a lightweight gas cooker and plenty of dehydrated food ticks all the boxes and means an evening spent staying warm and consuming warm and surprisingly tasty meals.

 

Located out in the sparse backcountry, there is very little if no connection to the outside world, bar the path winding to and from the hut. No cell phone signal, no 4G, no emails, no Facebook. It is a serene feeling, and life takes a different speed out in the backcountry with very different priorities; long ribbons of perfect trail flow like a river, through ancient forest and over scenic mountainsides with some of the most perfect sections of trail ever ridden; stunning vistas, magnificent giant ferns, thousand year old trees and the sound of silence.

 

Searching and foraging for firewood, and water from taps in the hut means riders can travel light, and with packs on, and riding into the wild to sleep feels like a proper adventure, where lifelong memories are made.
