Student Job Search (SJS) is working alongside the Career Teams at a number of Universities across NZ, to assist tertiary students with the necessary skills they need for their job search. The services are combining forces to hold employment workshops for tertiary students, offering advice on CV and cover letter writing, interviews and application skills, as well as informing students about what jobs are currently available in their region.

Nicola Smith from Student Job Search explains, “Our intention is to not only be on campus to provide support to students to build these essential skills but also to make local employers aware of the quality of students available, particularly with the summer period fast approaching”.

For tertiary students, now is the perfect time to start thinking about what needs to be done in preparation for job hunting. The best summer jobs get snapped up quickly, which is why we want to help to ensure students are ready to hit the ground running with their job search, applications and interviews to land the perfect job.  Whether it’s for some extra cash, or to gain some work experience, it’s always best to be equipped with the rights skills and be prepared.

As well as providing face to face support, SJS are running an online competition, giving away 10 x $100 prezzy cards to students who update their job alerts on their SJS account. Having the right alerts set up will save students time when job searching and will ensure they’re the first to know when relevant jobs are advertised so they don’t miss out!

SJS hosts a range of one-off, casual, part time and full time jobs, which are dedicated to meeting the needs of all students. With a huge range of jobs from lawn-mowing and childcare, to hospitality, retail and a number of office-based roles, SJS are sure to have something suitable for everyone.

For employers, whether you’re a household or a professional organisation, SJS provides the opportunity to advertise your jobs for free. SJS has over 34 years experience of matching students with employers and has access to over 200,000 tertiary students looking for work. To ensure employers get the right person for the job, SJS interview all successful applicants by phone to provide a shortlist of candidates for the employer to then choose from.
