Planning and preparing for you business headshots in Auckland.

A little preparation prior to attending your corporate headshots photo shoot will ensure you look your best and enjoy your experience at the same time.  Important things for you to consider include your choice of clothing, your hair, and any makeup you may wish to wear.

Clothing is an important part of expressing yourself and you will want to select outfits that reflect your personality within your portraits.  As always, it is best to bring along a few choices to your shoot to ensure you have a variety of options available.  Your photographer may also have some advice should you be unsure on the day.

Specifically, strong and solid colours work wonders in corporate headshots photography.  It is up to you whether you wish to include a pattern on your clothing, although sometimes keeping it simple works best as there will be fewer distractions in your images.  Don’t forget, you can always add layers throughout your shoot to create a variety of different looks.

Regarding personal grooming, ensure you bring along a comb and/or hair brush.  Due to hygiene reasons, you may wish not to use any hair care items at a photography studio.  Remember to create a variety of different looks too; your hair down will create a more formal or business orientated look, where as your hair up will portray you in a very different manner; more relaxed and casual.

Makeup is always a personal choice, and as such you may wish to wear a lot or just a little.  Ensure you cover up any blemishes, although professional photo retouching will ensure any unwanted marks can be removed during post production work on your images.  Exfoliating your skin the night before is also a great way of making your skin look radiant.

Men may wish to shave just prior to their session to ensure a clean look.  Moisturising after shaving is also a great way of reducing any skin inflammation or irritation.  If you have a beard, you may wish to ensure it is trimmed neatly.

Finally, you should consider what kind of look you are trying to portray.  You may wish to appear smiley and approachable, or more formal and business like.  Perhaps you may wish to create a variety of different looks throughout your session, allowing you the flexibility to appeal to different clientele.  This is just up to you!

As with anything in life, including portraiture, planning makes all the difference.  You should talk with your photographer before your session to answer any of your questions and make sure you are fully prepared to look your best!
