Since 1960, Dil’s Funeral Services has been meeting the needs of families as they cope with loss and sadness after a death, providing funeral services that are personalised, meaningful and memorable. However, they also provide a variety of other services to help all those organising a funeral.

For instance, if you’d like flowers for the service, chapel, casket or your home they can take care of it all for you. After the funeral, flowers may be left with the casket, taken home, or given to a hospital or rest home, and Dil’s make sure that all cards from the floral tributes are collected for you. When making your selection you might need to consider what is in season, and they can guide you with this. Flowers provide colour, fragrance and personality and they are also an expression of love and support.

Similarly, music has a very powerful effect on a funeral service. It doesn’t matter what style of music it is as long as it in some way reflects the character of the person who has died, or expresses your feelings or emotions for them. During the service you might choose to play a recording of a favourite song, or have live musicians perform; perhaps an organist or pianist, a singer or choir, or, if appropriate, a piper, bugler, string quartet, or small band.

Dil’s also have a wide range of urns to choose from, and these come in a variety of styles, materials, finishes and sizes. What is right for you is simply a matter of personal preference or what you plan to do with the ashes.

For those who have been in the services there are special options you might like to consider. At the service a flag may be draped over the casket, the ‘Last Post’ sounded and an RSA representative will offer a tribute if invited. If a Service Person’s tribute is to be given, Dil’s can arrange to have a bugler play the Last Post and Reveille rather than use a recording. There are Service Persons’ burial and ash plots in some cemeteries for eligible personnel. Veterans’ Affairs New Zealand subsidises the cost of these plots and memorial plaques.

If you’d like a memento of the funeral Dil’s can make an audio or video recording of the service, and they are also able to offer a webcast, and as a matter of course they provide a simple memorial book to help mark the funeral. Attendance pages may be included in the memorial book where you wish to have a record of those present at the service.
