The school holidays are over and many shoppers start to thinking about Christmas and presents. What to give kids and friends this as Chrismas present this year? What are the popular products?

Comparison shopping site PriceMe has analysed the popularity of various products and product categories each year since 2011 in order to come up with a list of popular products. This analysis combined with new product launches in 2017 yields eight products likely to becoming bestsellers this Christmas.

The top-8 products for Christmas 2017 in no particular order are:

  1. Lego City Police Station. The popularity of Lego for kids has increased exponentially the last 5 years. This is a gift that appeals to both younger and older kids (5-14 years old). One of the top sellers this year is likely to be Lego City Police Station, which contains seven mini figures as well as two jail cells. The current price online is $143.

  2. GoPro Hero6 Black. Possibly a bit pricey for many at about $760, but the latest action camera from GoPro is at the top of many young adults' shopping lists. GoPro Hero 6 Black records in 4K format, is extremely sturdy and waterproof down til 10 metres.

  3. SoundMoovz. Place two bands around your wrists or feet and create music by your own motions. This is a wearable device that connects via an app to a wireless speaker. It's currently sold on TradeMe, but, hopefully, other Kiwi retailers will also stock it prior to Christmas.

  4. Chanel Coco Mademoiselle. There's plenty in the Coco Mademoiselle series from Chanel that your wife or girlfriend will appreciate as a thoughtful gift. The 100 ml EDP bottle costs more than $235, but the EDT version is less expensive at $180. Alternatively, go for the 150ml body cream.

  5. Bose Soundlink Revolve+. A 360-degree portable Bluetooth speaker with excellent sound. Bose Soundlink Revolve+ comes at a rather hefty price tag, but there are loads of features which provide good value. For example, the battery lasts 16 hours and the speaker is water-resistant so that you can bring it to the beach!

  6. Cozmo robot. Cozmo by Anki is a cute little robot friend that's powered by artificial intelligence. It can detect your face using facial recognition, learn your name and sports hundreds of emotions etc. It currently retails at just under $360.

  7. Amazon Echo Dot 2nd generation. Amazon's low-cost assistant is very easy to install and communicate with. Configure the services you need and you'll have your own personal assistant. The second generation Dot is much better at voice recognition compared to the initial version, especially at larger distances.

  8. iRobot Roomba 980. We're rounding off the list with another robot. iRobot's robotic vacuum cleaner saves you time and ensures that your floor is always clean and tidy. iRobot Roomba 980 isn't cheap at $1,280, but will surely appeal to a large range of consumers.

Assistants, robots and wearable devices will all be very popular this Christmas.
