When looking for the most energy efficient and long-lasting lighting option you can’t go past LED (light-emitting diodes) lighting. At around $8 per bulb, they do cost a bit more upfront than standard bulbs. However, over their 15,000-hour lifespan, the energy savings more than make up for that - using up to 85% less energy than halogen or incandescent bulbs. The team, at Ester Electrical can provide an in depth quote, and advice on the correct LED light to suit your needs.

There are LED lighting options for nearly every area in your home and the long lifespan makes them the ideal choice for hard-to-reach places such as high ceilings. Making the change to LED lighting can be as simple as selecting and fitting an LED bulb with the same base as your current one. Alternatively, there are dedicated fittings, which do not need replacing for up to 15 years. If you are building a new home, converting downlights to LED or installing new lights as part of a renovation, Ester recommend dedicated LED fittings. If you are just making the change to LED, you may retrofit LED bulbs, ensuring you get the same base and a suitable shape, brightness and colour for your requirements.

When LED’s first came to the market they provided a harsh white light which was unsuitable for general lighting.  Ester Electrical now provides many options of brightness in addition to warm white and cool white. Warm white is suitable for most areas, creating a warm ambience, while cool white is best suited to areas where task lighting is required eg. laundry and bathroom.

Ester Electrical ‘s LED bulbs have an expected lifespan of between 15,000 and 50,000 hours which, in most households, would be more than five years of normal use. However, LED’s can have a reduced lifespan if they get too hot – this can be common when retrofitted into recessed downlights and spotlights. There may also be a shortened lifespan of an LED when installed in areas exposed to steam as the small electric circuit may short if it gets damp.

LED’s do have a higher upfront cost however, you can expect to save money on power in the long term, and generally LED will pay for itself in about a year, then it will continue to go for another 12 years. The incandescent bulb would need replacing about once a year.
