June 22, 2018 – With the statistic coming out that only 355,000 Kiwi women aged 18 to 30 are part of KiwiSaver, the NZ Financial Markets Authority have launched a campaign to encourage more young women to get involved with KiwiSaver, saying that this demographic has the most to gain from becoming part of the retirement savings scheme.

The FMA’s campaign is being delivered online with videos of young women talking about KiwiSaver, aimed at their peers with the intention of raising the rate at which they view KiwiSaver as a worthwhile investment and join the scheme. The campaign has been launched alongside a new KiwiSaver health checker tool to help people answer questions such as whether they’re in the right fund, if they could be saving more, and whether they’re paying the right amounts of tax and fees.

According to Simone Robbers, Acting Director of External Communications and Investor Capability for the NZ Financial Markets Authority, “Women tend to be less confident than men about investing, however they often make better investors over the long-term because they are less likely to chop and change direction.”

Any young women that aren’t yet involved in KiwiSaver but want to start saving towards a first home purchase or for their retirement can easily get KiwiSaver advice from one of SHARE’s experienced financial advisers, which could be the first step needed to start on a journey towards future financial security.
