The 1st of July marks the beginning of Plastic Free July, and Shut The Front Door, New Zealand’s top online homeware and gifting destination, is determined to take part. From including more plastic-free and sustainable product ranges, to their internal staff getting on-board on the movement, Shut The Front Door will be leading the Plastic Free July charge.

Plastic Free July is all about refusing the use of single-use plastic in our day-to-day lives, from plastic bags at the supermarket to the takeaway cups for your morning coffee. These plastics are made of materials designed to last forever, becoming permanent pollution. If not properly recycled, they end up in our waterways and the ocean, endangering our aquatic ecosystems and the world at large.

Shut The Front Door has put together a range of products helpful for going single-use-plastic-free. These include high-quality reusable drink bottles from S’well and Frank Green, Think Cup glass coffee cups, stainless steel straws, Ethique bars for body and hair washing wrapped in paper, as well as bees wax food wraps and reusable produce goodie bags.

The company is also looking at the practices in-store and reusing all the packaging that product is shipped in to ship out online orders. This means purchases will be wrapped in either paper or reusable shopping bags.

While Shut the Front Door is the first to admit that they have a long way to go, everything starts with the first steps.

Begin your Plastic Free July journey today – it’s never too late to start. Simply by swapping your takeaway coffee cup with a great reusable coffee cup, you too can help reduce your eco-footprint.
