Radiofrequency Ablation Treatment for Varicose Veins Available at Palm Clinic

Radiofrequency ablation is a procedure to treat varicose veins. It uses heat created from radiofrequency. Varicose veins are swollen, enlarged veins. They happen most often in the legs. Varicose veins can develop when valves in the veins become damaged. This causes problems with blood flow. Over time, too much blood collects in veins. The veins may bulge, twist, and stand out under the skin. They can also cause symptoms such as aching, cramping, or swelling.

Varicose veins can cause heavy tired legs, throbbing or aching. This is more likely after prolonged sitting or standing and symptoms are usually worse at the end of the day. Other symptoms can include ankle swelling, restlessness in the legs, cramp, itching, or a red rash (‘varicose eczema’) on the skin of the legs. Sometimes there can be a dark pigment forming on the lower legs or a congested purple appearance of the feet at the end of the day. Varicose ulcers can appear as a direct result.  

The varicose vein treatment process is to have an initial consultation with one of Palm Clinics phlebologists (vein doctors). After the assessment the specialist will chart the course of treatment. Varicose vein treatment options include: wearing compression hosiery; or a definitive treatment such as endovenous laser and/or injection or in a few cases surgery.

An ultrasound of the varicose veins is performed by a vascular sonographer and a "map" of the veins is created.  This will be assessed by the phlebologist and a varicose vein treatment plan is formulated. The patient is then booked in for relevant treatment sessions.  

Although varicose veins are not a life-threatening condition, most people with symptoms (such as aching) notice an increased quality of life after vein treatment.
