Get Experts to Clean Your Air Conditioner, Call the Heat Pump Guys

As New Zealand bakes in its mid-summer heat, air-conditioning experts Heat Pump Guys (HPG) says it is the ideal time to maintain and service heat pump units. Regular maintenance is essential to ensure a long operating life and heat pump manufacturers recommend the units in the home have a full service carried out on an annual basis.

An air conditioner's filters, coils, and fins require regular maintenance for the unit to function effectively and efficiently throughout its years of service. Neglecting necessary maintenance ensures a steady decline in air conditioning performance while energy use steadily increases.

Commercial air conditioning systems should have a full service every three to six months. These units are used on a daily basis so require more attention. However, the frequency depends on the operational environment, and how much dirt and dust may build up in the unit.

HPG recommends that filters are cleaned approximately every three months. This can be easily done by the owner. The company can also clean filters.  With a full service from HPG the unit is cleaned and disinfected to prevent bacteria build up on the coil and throughout the unit. The filters, veins and outer covers are cleaned. They check the condensate drain and flushing with disinfectant. They check electrical terminals and components. Finally, they run the unit in both heating and cooling mode to check air temperatures

For the outdoor unit they ensure the unit is still level. They check for obstructions in and around the unit, coil, drain and electronics to improve efficiency and performance. They can check flare joints and fittings. They tighten valve caps, check electrical connections, check and clean coil. They check the refrigerant gas levels are satisfactory, clean the outside of the casing and spray against insects and bugs to prevent damage to the electronics.

The full heat pump service takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour for one indoor and outdoor unit.
