The Te Mihi project undertaken for Contact Energy demonstrates the onsite safety and innovation from the Fletcher Reinforcing Hamilton team, a key to the successful supply and placing of reinforcing steel at the Te Mihi Geothermal Power Project.

The project was delivered as a joint venture between McConnell Dowell, SNC Lavalin and Parsons Brinkerhoff who joined forces to design and construct the project. Fletcher Reinforcing cut, bent and placed approximately 2100 tonnes of New Zealand-made reinforcing steel supplied by Pacific Steel. Placing was difficult at times due to the nature and scale of the project, with many of the structures requiring Fletcher Reinforcing staff to work from scaffolding, adding complexity to an already complicated job.

"Fletcher Reo exhibited a high degree of innovation, through clever pre-assembly of cages and thorough detailing. Site personnel have been exemplary with minimal safety incidents. When required, Fletcher Reinforcing responded well by bringing additional personnel to deal with peak production requirements"  Michael Buckland, MSPJV Construction Manager.

Fletcher Reinforcing provide a wide range of accessories required on site for placing reinforcing steel and mesh such as bar chairs, safety caps, shims and heavy-duty circular spacers, offering the Castle range of bar chairs. This is a

comprehensive range of chairs that offers you strength and reliability, manufactured with clip-on options to assist you with faster and more accurate placement of reinforcing mesh or bar.

Material is carefully selected to ensure highest quality and consistency throughout the range, perfect for slab on ground applications, trench bar supports, driveways, paths, patios, civil precast construction. Used with reinforcing bar 12-32mm and star-posts or waratahs the range of Castle safety caps is available in high visibility orange and yellow.

Steel reinforcing bars, or rebar, are a common hazard on construction sites. The thin steel bars can stick out from construction projects and pose a hazard to workers who can cut or scratch themselves on the sharp ends. Designed with smooth, rounded cap, the Castle Safety Cap minimises damage or impalement injury in workplace accidents.

Heavy Duty Shims withstand high loads particularly designed for levelling panels before placement and many other spacing applications on the building site.

Heavy Duty Circular Spacers are a great product from Castle - a heavy duty circular spacer, perfect for use in column cages, pile cages, trench bar supports and a wide variety of precast applications.
