Freightways has a team of well over 4,000 staff and contractors throughout Australia and New Zealand, and at the end of last year, over 2,700 of their team took the time out from their busy schedules to tell them their thoughts and experiences around Diversity and Inclusion in their respective businesses.
They would like to take this chance to thank everyone for their support and the
time put into the survey last year, and also to the project champions for encouraging such a high level of participation. Freightways genuinely care about what their people think of working as part of the company, and they now understand a lot more about inclusion levels and the demographic make-up of the people in their teams.
The diversity of people with different skills, beliefs, backgrounds and ways of thinking is key to Freightways’ businesses’ past success and potential for the future. They believe that encouraging a diverse team and inclusive workplace has very real benefits for their people, their customers and their business. The entire leadership team at Freightways is committed to making their various businesses good places to work for and contract to.
The survey highlighted two key areas of focus for employees and contractors:
Working to have transparent career and business pathways – so everyone who wants to develop either their career or their business knows how to go about it.
Having awareness and tools for positive wellbeing and mental health. People are their strength, and their physical and mental health are vital.
Some businesses will have their own initiatives to add to the two key areas of focus above, making their businesses even stronger from the Diversity and Inclusion perspective.
Freightways ask people to remember that inclusion starts with everyone, (never more so than with recent events) and that they are committed to ensuring that everyone is given a “fair go”, everyone is included and can achieve their potential, from whatever their starting point.
