Dimond Roofing were involved with the Hallswell community complex which includes a 3050-square-metre library and community facility, featuring a customer service centre, multipurpose spaces and a pool office and changing room areas. Customer service facilities and multipurpose spaces were built on the existing Halswell Aquatic Centre site and adjacent land, and the complex, fronting onto Halswell Road, created a hub for the rapidly-growing Halswell community post the Christchurch earthquakes.

To roof and clad this masterpiece Dimond Roofing’s new Heritage Tray® machine was placed on top of a purpose built scaffolding tower in order to rollform the 26m roof sheets and deliver them directly to the the roof as to reduce the requirement for additional crane lifting of the sheets to roof. The roof and walls played a major role in the complex build in terms of the aesthetics and rainwater management, but also provided a huge challenge to the manufacturer and roofing installer. Along with some very elaborate flashing details on the roof and walls that deliver both hidden gutters and completely concealed fixings, the long sheet lengths. After several site meets and discussions around transport, the decision was made to design a specific scaffold tower and run the roofing on site, directly onto the roof. The tower and machine were regularly shifted as they moved to different areas of the roof.

The roof and cladding on this job is the major visual aspect; it is a series of roof planes layered one after the other, each plane being set on a slightly different angle. The finished project is one of the more architecturally inspiring and challenging jobs Dimond Roofing have been involved with to date. Parts of the roof seamlessly turn into wall cladding and rainwater flows to ground level gutters, down the roof and into rain gardens. The barge flashings conceal a hidden gutter detail which carries water from the tapered sheets, and the roof planes slope both vertically and horizontally

Heritage Tray® markets itself as a refined, economical and flexible roofing profile, and requires no additional plywood substrate, thus reducing costs. Additionally, it can be roll formed on site, an attractive logistical option for larger construction projects, so for more information on tray roofing, metal roofing, metal cladding, architectural roofing and affordable tray roofing please go to https://www.dimond.co.nz .
