Winchester Counselling discusses how couples can take advantage of EFT Couples Therapy in marriage counselling as a strategy to improve their relations.

Couples naturally display a healthy reliance on their partner. This healthy dependency is what forms a safe bond between two people as well as a sense of understanding. But, when expectations within the relationship are not met and disappointments go unrecognised, a potential problem may form and this may cause feelings of misunderstanding and hopelessness towards one or both parties.

Andrew Winchester, the mind behind Winchester Counselling, is one of only three male counsellors New Zealand with a master’s degree focused on counselling and certified in the best international evidence-based relationship counselling method – Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). With a solid educational background and formal training, Andrew Winchester strives to help married couples navigate their relationships via EFT.

The role of EFT focuses on mending the bond of safety rather than focusing on events that may have led to misunderstandings. EFT aims to allow couples to understand the needs that lie beneath their partner’s responses, so they can address the emotions prompting what may seem like intense reactions from minor disagreements.

Together with Andrew and his employment of the EFT strategy, couples will learn how to calm each other down when in escalated states of emotion. When couples can recognise behavioral patterns and responses, they can then begin to work with Andrew in restoring their ability to support each other. EFT will also enable them to discuss their issues more effectively and tackle their difficulties together, ultimately building trust and enabling their relationship to flourish.
