Vivo Hairstylists Win Gold & Bronze in Prestigious Goldwell Colorzoom Competition 2019

Vienna, Austria might be 18,000km away from New Zealand, but for one hair salon it’s closer than ever. Vivo hairstylists’ Kayla Green and Lauren Gunn recently took out Gold and Bronze in the New Talent Category NZ of the prestigious Goldwell Colorzoom Competition 2019. Kayla says, “I love competitions, and from the moment I saw Goldwell’s ‘REMIX’ competition brief I had the idea for my entry straight away!”

Vivo offered anyone who wanted to enter the competition the opportunity to work with a professional photographer. “They paid for us and our models to fly to Auckland to work with acclaimed hair fashion photographer, Fiona Quinn.” Lauren adds. ‘Remix’ featured bold colors, sharp contours and strong contrasts, combining punk with pop. Having entered last year, Kayla already had the perfect muse. “I called my model Geneva from the previous year. I immediately saw the colour, the cut and the outfit in my mind!”

Kayla’s vision proved to have all of the elements the judges were looking for, her bold look being named a finalist and then winning Gold in the New Talent Category NZ. Kayla will fly all-expenses paid with her model to Vienna in September to join competitors from around the globe. Overwhelmed with excitement, she says, “I’m truly over the moon, I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face or hold back the happy tears. I’ve never travelled further than Australia and my model has never left New Zealand! This is such an amazing achievement in my career."

When asked what was the best part of the process, Kayla can’t choose just one aspect. “It was so much fun creating it; myself and Geneva are a real team. I was really in the zone and relaxed this year, it was a dream!” Both Lauren and Kayla credit the supportive environment at Vivo for their wins. Kayla enthuses, “I love the support and endless opportunity Vivo gives me, encouraging me to be the best hairdresser I can be!”.
