Capital C: Concerts boss Phil Sprey said picking the last of the NZ bands proved a more difficult task than expected, “We received well over 150 requests by NZ and Australian bands to be part of our monster event and were flooded with DVD’s, CD’s and material covering a very diverse range of talent”. “While a small percentage was pure garage produced enthusiasm the rest was of a quality making our job a tough one. So we ‘blind’ played everyone to a small group of really qualified people in the industry and then ended up with a short list of ten any of which could easily have been chosen but the final call was more of one to see who best fitted into the programme.”

Formed in 2005, The Symphony of Screams are based in the Hibiscus Coast, North of Auckland. The Band shares the same passion and drive to write record and perform original music that represents their musical vision.

Symphony of Screams are:
Russ Hansen. Vocals, Gat, Bass & Mandolin.
TeMatera (Matt) Smith, Vocals, Gat, Bass & Mandolin.
Karl Moore. Bass, Gat & Backing Vocals
Bones Coney. Drums, Mouth Harp, Backing Vocals

‘Live performance is really important to us, we want to give our audience a real experience, not just play for them but give ‘em a show!’ We swap instruments, and the main vocals are shared between Russ & TeMatera. A real good dynamic and a point of difference.

The Debut Album Heed to the Voices was recorded over 18mnths at the Red Room in Whangaparaoa. The studio was built specifically for this album, and now operate as a not for profit studio, for other recording artists

The album has had great reviews in the UK by Kerrang radio: ‘The Symphony of Screams hammer it home all the way, it’s a killer album!’ Lawrence Guest Senior Producer. ‘This is NZ Napalm!’ Christian Stevenson Amped DJ.

The Video for ‘Wicked World’ was self funded, with huge contributions of time and effort by many friends within the industry. The Video’s production company was the ‘Cinematic Alliance’, and was Directed by Philip Peacocke. Wicked World is now being shown on C4, Juice, Cloud (In pub TV nation wide) and soon on to ALT TV. The Album is due to be available online at i-tunes mid January 2008.

It’s hard to say what we sound ‘like’, guess you’ll have to decide, but it seems the consensus is old school 70’s style riffs, with a modern twist.
