Sir Edmund Hillary’s state funeral will be seen from Arena Manawatu’s big screen in the Square on Tuesday morning from 11am.

The City Council wants as many people as possible to witness the funeral and has arranged for the screen to be installed in the events quadrant facing out to Broadway.

The screen will be brought by crane to the Square early on Tuesday morning and it is intended that both image and sound will be functioning an hour before the funeral begins.

City Council Chief Executive, Paddy Clifford, says Sir Edmund is an identity who belongs not just to New Zealand but the world and, by installing the screen in the centre of Palmerston North, as many people as possible can honour a man who has done so much for his country, Nepal and the world.

He says Tuesday morning will be an opportunity when we can all commemorate Sir Edmund’s life.
