Department tackles Otago anniversary day confusion

The Department of Labour is working to find a solution to the fact that Otago Anniversary Day this year clashes with Easter.

Otago Service manager Mark Murray agrees that the situation is not ideal, and the department is keen to ensure Otago employees and employers have clarity around this holiday.

Mr Murray says department staff are doing some research to find when, and if, a similar clash had ever happened before and, if so, what was done about it.

“Custom and practice is an important guide and maybe we can find a traditional solution to consider.”

The department will also be seeking the views of Otago employers and employees groups on the matter.
“We hope to come up with a satisfactory solution shortly.”
