GISBORNE

MetService meteorologists are forecasting that a low pressure system will move out of the tropics this weekend and head southwards toward the Chatham Islands, raising the swell on the Gisborne and Hawke's Bay coast.

"Most of the wind and rain associated with this system is on its southern and eastern sides," commented MetService Weather Ambassador, Bob McDavitt. "As this low passes by east of the North Island during the weekend it could bring some heavy rain to the Gisborne and northern Hawke's Bay ranges and strong southerly winds to the coast especially on Sunday."

This weekend is Anniversary weekend for Auckland and much of the north of the country, including Gisborne. "Fine warm weather is the forecast for most people for their anniversary weekend. For the Anniversary regatta in the Hauraki Gulf on Monday the outlook is for a moderate afternoon sea breeze and only a low easterly swell."
