The Lake Taupo Region has been putting the long summer days to good use kicking off 2008 with a bumper crop of events.

The year started with a New Years Eve celebration in the new Unison Riverside Park Amphitheatre attended by around 7000 people. This was followed by a further four concerts and outdoor movie screenings through the Month of January

Regional Events Marketing Manager Warwick Hall says “we rolled off the concert season and straight into A1GP which was huge for the Town and we just haven’t stopped.”

Two huge weekends followed with Medieval Jousting, two Art and Food events, NZ Laser Yachting Champs and Thunder on the Great lake jet boat racing.

Last weekend saw Super 14 pre season rugby with the chiefs facing off against the Hurricanes, Picnic in the Park with Opera and vintage aircraft, Orienteering, NZ Sprint Triathlon Championships and Kiwiburn.

The town will stop for a quick breathe before launching into the New Balance Great Lake Relay, Across the Lake Swim, Ironman, Oxfam Trailwalker, Odyssey 3 Day Mountain Bike and Erupt Lake Taupo Arts Festival.

The events Industry is a multi million dollar business attracting hundreds of thousands of domestic and international visitors to the region annually, along with the raft of annual events hosted each year there are a number of world events currently being negotiated.
