A major new drama series is set to screen on New Zealand television thanks to funding from NZ On Air.

“Go Girls is a 13-part series from South Pacific Pictures, the makers of Outrageous Fortune, Shortland Street and Whale Rider,” said NZ On Air chief executive Jane Wrightson.

“The series has been carefully developed by the award-winning writing team of Rachel Lang and Gavin Strawhan, and NZ On Air is delighted to support this fresh and funny project,” she said

“Creative strength, plus the ability of South Pacific Pictures to deliver quality, popular productions, has encouraged NZ On Air to make a significant investment in new New Zealand stories.”

“It’s a sexy, romantic comedy/drama about three ‘twenty something’ women with very big dreams,” said South Pacific Pictures chief executive John Barnett. “We are delighted to be working with TV2 on this new series.”

TVNZ’s drama commissioner Kathleen Anderson said TVNZ was excited about supporting a new TV2 series. “We’re confident the audience will love it,” she said.

NZ On Air will contribute just over $6.2 million to the series, which will screen in prime time on TV2.
