MANUKAU CITY

Manukau residents are being encouraged to drop off their old appliances for recycling at a special day in East Tamaki this Saturday.

Fisher and Paykel is opening its recycling centre at 14 Allens Road between 8am and 4pm. Cash back vouchers worth up to $150 will be given for the first 100 working appliances brought in to us on the day.

Manukau City Council City Form and Environment Portfolio Leader Sharon Stewart is encouraging people to take any old fridges, freezers and washing machines to the Fisher and Paykel recycling centre.

“This is an easy way for people to make sure their old appliances are recycled instead of ending up in a landfill,” Cr Stewart says.

“Lots of people want to recycle as much as possible but don’t know where to take things like ovens, fridges and freezers.

“Manukau City Council offers a kerbside recycling collection, but we also support a number of other initiatives that allow recycling of other things that can’t be put in a recycling bin. This is part of our aim of making it as easy as possible for people to recycle,” Cr Stewart says.

The council also supported the recent E-day for recycling old computer equipment, has a drop off box for recycling mobile phones in its customer centre and supports the Hazmobile collection.
