The top navigators from around the country are heading to Naseby this weekend for round 2 of the orienteering superseries. Naseby is a truely iconic orienteering area with its open pine forest over complex eroded gully terrain caused by extensive sluicing during the gold rush. Anyone visiting Naseby is stoked by its history, laidback vibe and Graeme Sydney landscapes, but for orienteers there is that extra little thrill of anticipation, the thought of putting your skills up against this classic test piece.

For the first time a sprint event will be held through the streets and parks of the township, supplementing the usual middle and classic distance events. On the competition side it is hard to look past the Southerly Storm, perennial favourites and close knit team. They have their spearhead back in Chris Forne, eager to show the orienteering public he is still no1, who is ably supported by the likes of Aaron Prince and Georgia Whitla.

Much interest is also focussed on the long awaited comeback of Queenstowns Bruce McLeod, a top elite level performer in the 90's, who left a big gap when he left the scene . Many observers believe McLeod has the navigational ability to return straight to the top level. Their theory will be tested shortly.

Asides from this there is a strong elite field from around the country, no doubt encouraged by the events proximity to orienteering nationals near Riversdale Beach in two weeks time. Competitions are also being held in veteran and junior grades. What tricks can Naseby play this time?
