PALMERSTON NORTH

Funding applications are again being invited from community groups and individuals. Palmerston North City Council and Creative New Zealand are offering financial assistance to community based arts and culture projects through the Creative Communities New Zealand (CCNZ) scheme.

The scheme aims to support projects that increase local participation or interest in the arts and increase the range and diversity of arts available.

‘Arts’ is broadly defined to mean any ‘creative expression’, including those relating to language, literature, and performing and visual arts. This means that a wide variety of projects is considered, such as theatre, multi-media, dance, traditional arts, craft, music, literary arts and performance arts.

The CCNZ grants highlight the Council’s support of local artistic and cultural aspirations and offer a great opportunity to showcase local talent or to pilot something new and innovative. Examples of projects recently funded include Limb-Brick Production’s film documentary ‘Imagining the Kennedys’; the Manawatu Camera Club’s photographic social documentary on cultural diversity; Massey’s ‘Manawatu Summer Shakespeare’ and Youthline’s Art Week.

CCNZ funding rounds take place twice a year. The scheme supports applications for amounts between $500 and $5000. Funding for projects under $2000 is also available from the Community Arts Palmerston North monthly funding meetings. (Contact (06) 353 2800)

Application forms and guidelines are available from the PNCC Customer Service Centre from 17th March 2008, or www.pncc.govt.nz .

Closing date for applications is 4pm on Monday 14 April.
