ROTORUA

The provisional results of the 2008 World Fly Fishing put the Czech Republic ahead of New Zealand in what has been a close run contest.

The two teams alternated as the winners of the competition sessions on the first two days, but the Czech team clinched it on the third and final day, winning the Friday sessions.

Martin Deoz of the Czech Republic was the top placed individual angler, with Julian Daguillanes of France second and Tomas Starychfojtu, also from the Czech Republic, third. The best performing member of the New Zealand team was Des Armstrong who came 6th overall.

All the teams are celebrating in Rotorua tonight but after a week of early starts, may be able to catch up on some sleep before the 10am conservation symposium on the restoration of the Rotorua lakes.

In Olympic style, Saturday's 4pm closing ceremony includes a procession down the main street of Rotorua.

The confirmed final results are expected to be available by mid morning on Saturday 29th March. A summary of the results is at www.nzfishing.com and detailed results will be published at the 2008 World Fly Fishing Championship website www.2008worldflyfishingchamps.com
